Former ‘Superman’ Dean Cain to play main character in a Mel Trotter Ministries Film
GRAND RAPIDS, MI (February 5, 2020) — Jason Campbell, owner of JC Films, a production company in existence to engage current culture through powerfully produced faith-based films, is bringing a feature-length film production to Grand Rapids in June. A nationally acclaimed writer and producer, Campbell and Mel Trotter Ministries signed a film production contract last December.
The movie, tentatively titled One Life at a Time, will highlight both the importance of awareness and the misconceptions of homelessness in West Michigan. The storyline takes viewers on a human journey where the lives of people from vastly different upbringings and socioeconomic status intersect in the most unlikely of places.
The script also includes an historical nod to the man Melvin E. Trotter, in light of the mission’s 120-year anniversary. Mel Trotter Ministries opened its doors in 1900.
When asked the question, “Why a movie?” Dennis Van Kampen, President and CEO of Mel Trotter Ministries, replied, “We are all wired to connect our lives with others through stories. Jesus told stories all the time to help people understand what God is like and what life is about. Our hope is that through this film, viewers would connect deeply with that same fundamental truth.”

The movie will be utilizing a few hundred local actors and extras. JCFilms has partnered Compass College of Cinematic Arts, a Grand Rapids school that provides God-gifted artists with the spiritual and creative tools needed to create experiential and culturally impacting stories to produce the film.
Casting is set for late April, with the twelve-day production to begin in June.
