WEST VIRGINIA — Several years after JCFilms Studios brought audiences the powerful faith-based drama John Light, two of the film’s memorable stars are preparing to share the screen once again, this time in a much darker and more psychological story.

Released in 2019, John Light starred Michael Ochotorena as John Light, a hardened former prison inmate attempting to rebuild his life after finding faith, alongside Michael Sigler as Matt Garrett, one of the men who helps him navigate life outside prison. The film was directed by JCFilms Studios President Jason Campbell and also featured actor Dean Cain.

Now, Ochotorena and Sigler will reunite for the upcoming JCFilms feature film SQUATTER, which is scheduled to be filmed in West Virginia.

“The chemistry between Michael Ochotorena and Michael Sigler on John Light was unbelievable,” said Campbell. “There was something about watching those two actors work together that stayed with me. We’ve had a tremendous response to that film over the years, and I’ve always wanted to find the right project to bring these two back together. I think SQUATTER is that movie.”

SQUATTER is a psychological thriller centered on David, a family man who returns to West Virginia following the death of his estranged father. David has inherited the childhood home he spent decades trying to forget and intends to clean it out, sell it and quickly return to his life.

But when David arrives, he discovers Migs, a mysterious ex-convict already living inside the house and holding paperwork claiming he has every right to be there.

When authorities are unable to immediately remove Migs, David makes an unusual decision: if he can't get the squatter out, he'll move in with him. What begins as a battle between two men over a house soon becomes something far more disturbing.

As David spends more time inside his childhood home, long-buried memories begin returning. Strange noises echo through the walls. Nightmares become increasingly vivid. And Migs seems to know things about David's father and David's childhood that a complete stranger shouldn't possibly know.

The deeper David searches for answers, the more difficult it becomes to determine what is real, what has been buried in the past, and who inside the house can actually be trusted.

“On the surface, it's a movie about a squatter,” Campbell said. “But underneath that, it's about fear, childhood trauma, manipulation and how easily someone can make you question what you remember. We want the audience constantly asking themselves, ‘What is really happening in this house?’”

The project will give Ochotorena and Sigler an opportunity to once again carry a story together, but in roles and circumstances very different from John Light.

SQUATTER will be filmed in West Virginia, with additional casting and production information expected to be announced by JCFilms Studios as the project moves toward production.
