According to a recent study, church drama programs and Christian theater performances are at an all-time low. Christian music is flourishing like never before, faith films are becoming increasingly popular yet, church theater programs are vanishing.
Some of the reasons for Church theater decline could be in staffing, not having a script or even the right ministry marketing plan. But what if that was all handled by a team of Christ centered theater production professionals.
When I was growing up, church theater was a big deal. Every year, Bill and Gloria Gather would write a new musical and our youth group would perform it. Now, to be honest, I was never chosen as the lead, however, the experience of preforming and being a part of telling that story on a stage changed my life and ultimately led me starting JCFilms Studios.
Let’s face it; we communicate through stories, and we connect through performance. Jesus said, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am,” and I contend that where there is a performer, an audience, and a space for them to be at the same time, theatre can happen and God will show up!
That’s why JCFILMS STUDIOS is launching a new Theatre Program to help communities and churches produce their own faith and family theatre production.
One of my favorite things about churches is when they become community venues they can reach the lost by offering a range of arts, drama & music. This new Theatre Program is being created to encourage young people to get involved in the theatre arts with joy, confidence, and a strong abiding faith.
We're so excited about this that we have already started recruiting churches from around the country to host our new Theatre Program with a goal in bringing one show to multiple church locations.
In addition to providing all of the scripts, music and production notes free of charge, JCFILMS STUDIOS will be hands on from beginning to end, assisting each church in casting and all the way to the final performance. And you never know, Christian actors like Kevin Sorbo or Dean Cain may make a special guest appearance.
