TAMPA, FLORIDA — Following the excitement and unforgettable experience of producing Dinger Disciples, JCFilms Studios is proud to announce its next baseball inspired feature film, The Sunshine Season, with production scheduled to begin in March 2027 in Tampa, Florida.
While Dinger Disciples celebrated faith and the game of baseball through the eyes of young athletes, The Sunshine Season takes audiences on a heartfelt journey that celebrates something uniquely Floridian: the tradition of spring training.
More than a baseball movie, The Sunshine Season is an inspiring family drama about hope, legacy, and the unforgettable memories created between a father and his son. The story follows widowed father Ben Carter after he receives a terminal cancer diagnosis and chooses to spend his remaining time taking his twelve year old son on one final road trip across Florida, visiting spring training communities before Opening Day. Along the way, they encounter extraordinary people whose wisdom teaches lessons about character, faith, family, and the importance of making every season of life count.
"After the incredible experience we had making Dinger Disciples, we knew we wanted to return to baseball," said Jason Campbell, President of JCFilms Studios. "But this time we wanted to tell a story where Florida itself becomes the star. Spring training is more than baseball. It's a tradition that brings families together, creates lifelong memories, and reminds us that every new season begins with hope."
For more than a century, Florida has been the home of spring training, welcoming millions of visitors each year to communities that come alive with baseball, hospitality, and family traditions. The Sunshine Season will showcase the beauty of the Sunshine State through its historic ballparks, coastal landscapes, charming downtowns, local restaurants, and welcoming communities, highlighting the people and places that have made Florida synonymous with the start of every baseball season.
The film is designed to appeal to audiences far beyond sports fans. With its universal themes of family, faith, perseverance, community, and hope, The Sunshine Season is intended to inspire viewers of all ages while celebrating one of Florida's most treasured traditions.
JCFilms Studios also hopes the project will encourage audiences to discover the unique communities that make Florida's spring training experience unlike any other. By showcasing destinations across the state, the film aims to promote tourism, strengthen local partnerships, and highlight the economic and cultural impact spring training has on Florida each year.
The production will feature internationally recognized actors Dean Cain and Kevin Sorbo, along with former Major League Baseball All Star Jonathan Lucroy, bringing authenticity, heart, and broad audience appeal to this inspiring story.
Production is scheduled to begin in March 2027 throughout the Tampa Bay region and other Florida spring training communities.
As development moves forward, JCFilms Studios will be seeking community partners, sponsors, local businesses, volunteers, and cast members who want to help bring this uplifting story to life. Because every spring... Everyone gets another chance.
