Recently, I was asked to do an interview. It was a tough one, and I wanted to share this with you because it really made me think about JCFilms Studios and what we are all about. The first question was, ‘What does faith have to do with films and why is it so important?”
I initially responded with my rehearsed retort, but halfway through it I realized the answer wasn’t about our film ministry, it was all about the story. People in every culture and throughout history have told stories and the best example of storytelling is Jesus’ consistent practice of telling stories throughout His ministry.
So, I answered. ‘If Jesus chose to communicate through arts and drama, this clearly shows that Christian storytelling, as a ministry is important.
Then, I was asked, “Why do you feel compelled to write scripts? I had to think about it for a second and then I replied, “Because I want to know if others feel the same way I do. For both the listener and the teller, a story helps us realize our shared faith experiences. Stories help make sense of our lives.”
I told her that is one of the reasons we created JCFilms Studios. To baptize young people in imagination by helping them find creative ways to integrate films with their faith.
I later thought about this way, we all remember movies we saw many years ago, especially the very good ones. We have the tendency to recall pictures and images or things that we see and hear together. So, if a message is communicated via film, we will remember it.
As the interviewer went on about the relevance of Christian films, I was reminded that films can be used to meet people, especially unbelievers, on their ground as encouraged by Paul in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23; “Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.”
That’s why JCFILMS STUDIOS exists. To make faith films to change the culture while providing opportunity for people of faith to get involved in Christian filmmaking. And with more people attending the cinema weekly than churches we have a lot of work to do.
In her final question, she cited a long study that the percentage of secular movies made is huge in proportion to Christian movies. Why, she asked? I responded, because Churches have not fully grasped the importance of Christian films as a ministry and because they have not heard about JCFilms Studios yet!
Folks, we have been given the gift, a medium of art to impact our world for Christ! Let’s go change the world, one film at a time!
Jason Campbell, President of JCFilms Studios.
